Dunedin Jays Off to a Good Start

The Jays High affiliate, the Dunedin Blue Jays, took 3 of 4 games from their division rivals Clearwater Threshers over the weekend.
The starting staff led the way, limiting the Threshers offense to a .145 batting average over the series. In 23 IP, Jays' starters allowed only 4 ER, while striking out 18 and walking 6.
Not to be denied, the Jays' hitters compiled a .289 average over the weekend, in a league known more for its pitching.
Jesse Hernandez, who allowed only 2 hits and 1 earned run over 6 innings in his first start, while allowing 2 BB and recording 6 K's, takes the mound tonight in the series opener against the Yankees' Tampa club.

Greetings Cluthlings, great blog! You certainly know your way through the ins and outs of minor league baseball. If only the jays could be off to the great start that we're seeing over in Dunedin (although last night against the tigers was a different story- best game they've played this year!) I have two questions for you:

First, how long until we see Sanchez called up for the jays?

Second, what are the details of Osuna's contract with the jays? I read somewhere that he was already on a 1.5 million dollar contract as a 16 year old kid, is this true?

I watched this video of Osuna striking out 13 of the 17 batters he faced over in Vancouver last year, and i've been hopeful ever since!

All the best,

Will

Thanks, Will.
I think the Jays will take their time with Sanchez...I don't see him skipping a level. They are still carefully monitoring his innings - he only threw 90 IP last year. He still needs to build arm strength, as well as work on his command.
If you're a Sports Illustrated fan, they had a great article on how Tampa develops their pitchers in the last issue.
So, I would say 2015 at the earliest, with 2016 being more likely.
Osuna was paid a $1.5 mill bonus - this was paid by the major league club.
After that point, his salary is paid by the minor league club he plays for. Minor league scale for full season Low A players is $1350/month, with a $25 daily meal allowance. And minor league players are only paid during their season.
When the Blue Jays are ready to put Osuna on their 40 man roster, they have to purchase his contract from the minor league club.
I hope the Jays take their time with him as well, even with the shelling the big league staff has taken so far.
